I haven't done much for podcasting on this site but check out OzPodcaster.com! I'm co-hosting a show about technology with Matt Jones from Australia. Every other week we use Skype to do out podcast. Are we the first to do an international co-podcast? Did that last sentence make any sense?

Show #7 Notes:

  Matt has a new PowerBook G4 ! 23 inch monitor coming this week too!

V4S - Voicemail 4 Skype
You need to install ORB to use this. You can also share your files from your PC. Similar to using your PC as a server.

Paul's review:
PRO: Easy to install after installing ORB. Saves Skype Voicemail to PC and you can retrieve it from your ORB web account.FREE FREE FREE!
CON: Not sure where the voicemail is being saved. Is it on my PC and if so where is it? Not sure how to listen to it other than going ot the ORB website.
OVERALL: I like it but would prefer not to have ORB running all the time just to use it. Rating: Initial was 10, final is 7 because of running ORB.

Skylook - FREE Skype recording software.

Paul's review:
PRO:
CON: Records at 24KHZ and 32 KBPS. We need 44.1 Khz and atleast 64 kbps. Price is $30.00 which is pricey for a plug-in for Skype. Check the Google Group before you buy.
OVERALL: Skylook still needs a few bugs worked out and to be fine tuned. The Outlook integration is great but the price is not good for such a new product. Needs more time to work out the bugs. Rating: 5

If you see any weird changes to my site it's because I'm porting the Kubrick template to Libsyn this weekend. Will I have it done? http://binarybonsai.com/kubrick/

Someone asked how to insert a Flickr photo album into Libsyn's template. So I just signed up for Flickr's free account. It's pretty easy to sign up and it even generates the code that you will need to insert the album into your site.

Here's a comparison between the free and Pro:

Upgrade to a Pro Account for just US$24.95 a year.

Here's what you'll get with a Pro Account:

  • 2 GB monthly upload limit
  • Unlimited storage
  • Unlimited bandwidth
  • Unlimited photosets
  • Permanent archiving of high-resolution original images
  • Ad-free browsing and sharing

The FREE account gives you:

  • 20 MB monthly upload limit
  • 3 photosets
  • Photostream views limited to the 200 most recent images
  • Storage of smaller (resized) images

You can also email your photos to your Flockr account and it will automatically post to your album.

Here's how to change the '.rightnav' also known as the sidebar back ground color. Log in to your Libsyn account then go to the SETTINGS page and click on the ADVANCED button. You'll have to edit the code but don't worry. If you mess up just pick the template again and all changed will be gone. From there, scroll down until you see RIGHTNAV. It will look like this:

.rightnav <-- Looks like this..
{
float: right;
width: 200px;
width: 210px;
width: 200px;
margin: 0 0 0 0.5em;
padding: 0.5em;
font-size: 90%;
background-color: #006633;
}

You'll need to add the code in red background-color: #006633; changing the HEX number to the color you want. Use this link to get the HEX number for your color.

Here's a color picker I found that is useful when working with your templates.

I finally finished with the Connally template for all Libsyn users.

To use this template log into your Libsyn account then click on the SETTINGS tab.

From the SETTINGS tab click on ADVANCED and paste the Connally template code into the text box at the bottom.

I really suggest using your own image for the header rather than just text. Make sure your image is 750x100.

Again thanks to Chad Connally from ABPositive.com for letting me convert one of his templates. Any questions please email me.

Working on a new template and having problems with Internet Explorer, of course. The main content won't load. Hopefully done by Monday. Also working on some basic ones similar to http://kubrick-for-blogger.blogspot.com Anyone know how to get more than 24 hours in a day?

I'm pretty much done with the site except that my images will not pull from the Libsyn server. I have to store my images on PAULWILCH.COM. Maybe its locked down, real locked down... too locked down. Anyway I'm emailing them about this so I'll have it fixed by tomorrow, I'll post the solution. Another great thing about Libsyn is their quick response for technical problems.

I finally got around to working on a new template for this site at Libsyn. My main site is at PaulWilch.com using Blogger. It's looking rough right now and still needs some tweaking. I'm trying to consolodate blogs and web hosting so I figured since I'm staying here to host my media files I should try to modify the template. Not sure why I didn't do this sooner because it's not as bad as I thought it was going to be. Hopefully I can get this tweaked and just use this as my main site. Does anyone know where we can get more templates for Libsyn?

Another site I'm working on is BoiseHockey.com with my friend Gary Barnes. We did the interview yesterday but I didn't have time to post it to this site until now.

Another server jump, this time to BigFishHosting.net ! Jake from BigFishHosting.net is my new sponsor so I won't have any problems putting Quick Time vidoes up. Thanks again Jake! Speaking of videos, the new iTunes now supports VIDEO. I haven't tried it out yet but you can download it now. You don't have to have an iPod to use this either. Think of it as an MP3 and Video manager.

Here's a great prank some MIT students pulled... and the link to their random paper generator. One of my favorite podcasts from IT Conversations.
"In April 2003, 25 year old Ben Saunders made a round trip to the North Pole from the Russian 'Ice Station Borneo', skiing solo over 140 miles in just two weeks. He used pioneering technology to send the first ever real-time video footage from the Pole and to update the award-winning northpole2003.com live from the ice. Not only did Ben achieve a world first, but the expedition raised over £10,000 as well as vital awareness for The Orchid Cancer Appeal, a leading male cancer charity."
I'm going to post the link for the free Gmail accounts again. After you get your Gmail account go to GmailTips.com for some great tips on how to control spam and use filters. I've been busy working on BoiseHockey.com and am having problems. Mostly because the new server is slow. It was easy to set up but loads waaaay to slow. I'm headed to WebHost4Life! Hopefully this is the last switch for that site.

I finally witched over from Godaddy.com to SeekDotNet.com for hosting. I haven't had time to put a tutorial out lately but the next one will be on Audacity. Mainly an beginner's video on how to record your audio and then add an intro and play back ground music. I've also been busy working on a hockey site, BoiseHockey.com. No real content yet and of course we are going to integrate podcasting. Our big hurdle (this week) was the MSSQL database on Godaddy. The tech support was very quick but limited on DNN knowledge.

New Pod Play tutorial.

-Single 800kb file that you can put in the iPod.
-Built in music player so you don't have to install iTunes or use Windows media player.
-EXPORT music to any PC.
-Simple and FREE. Similar program is Xplay and costs $30.00

Really need to have an app like this for Mac and Linux too. Going to get a quick audio out so this is a short entry.

I could not get the QuickTime video to upload to the server so Im reposting it in Flash. I'll post the tutorials in Flash if the software being reviewed is useable on PC, Mac, and Linux. If anyone knows of a server (with a great bandwidth plan) that can handle .MOV files please let me know.

After posting the jPodder tutorial I checked out iPodder again to see what changes they have made since I used it last in October. Major changes! I'll post a tutorial on the basics of iPodder this weekend as well as how to subscribe to an RSS feed. Here's a video of a mixed martial arts tournament I was in back in 1994. As far as I know it was the first one in Boise.
